Keep Florida Fishing Statement on Governor Scott’s Proclamation to Expand Special Session to Include Funding for Herbert Hoover Dike Repairs

(TALLAHASSEE, Fla.) – Keep Florida Fishing, an advocacy arm of the American Sportfishing Association, praised Florida Governor Rick Scott and his proclamation to expand special session to include funding for the Herbert Hoover Dike Repairs.

“On behalf of the American Sportsfishing Association and Keep Florida Fishing, we are thrilled that Governor Scott has issued a proclamation to expand Florida’s current special session to include funding for repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike,” said Kellie Ralston, Florida Fishery Policy Director of the American Sportfishing Association. “These state dollars, combined with the federal commitment in dollars from President Trump, will provide much needed maintenance and increase management flexibility. Thank you to Governor Scott, Senate President Negron and House Speaker Corcoran for their continued commitment to Florida’s environment and the state’s more than 3 million anglers who rely on clean waters, abundant fisheries and access to both.”

Keep Florida Fishing represents the interests of the recreational fishing community. Florida is the “Fishing Capital of the World,” with more than 3 million anglers who generate $9.6 billion in economic impact, support more than 128,000 jobs and contribute $53.3 million to state conservation efforts through license fees and special taxes on motor boat fuel and equipment.
