Stop Potential Florida Reef Closures
Our Florida Reefs, who innocently call themselves a “community-based planning process,” has decided to advance recommendations to create extensive “no take zones” all along the southeast Florida coast. They also want to turn management of these waters over to the Federal government by designating them as a National Marine Sanctuary.
Are you prepared for massive NO FISHING ZONES?
In some cases, limiting fishing can be an effective management tool, but it should be used as a last resort – not as a first choice. The main threats to these reefs come from increased water temperatures, water quality, and sedimentation – not recreational fishing. These proposals just don’t make sense.
KFF, along with its partners, will continue to voice its strong opposition to these recommendations.
